Dean Kurpjuweit, Senior Pastor
I am the Founding and Senior Pastor at NEXT, starting the church with a group of others in 2005.
Entering ministry in the summer of 1998, I was ordained by the Christian and Missionary Alliance in 2002. My wife Sasha and I have three very active daughters; Reagan, Mya and Sophie. I completed a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Alberta and also graduated from the Arrow Leadership Program in 2005. I currently am in the process of completing the slowest Masters of Christian Studies Degree in history. My primary roles at Next Christian Community are to lead the staff, speak on Sundays, provide spiritual direction to the congregation, while working with our church Council on Next's direction and future. Outside of the church I love the Oilers and Eskimos, enjoy cooking, reading, and arguing about politics. I also watch a lot of dance (did I mention the three daughters?). I strongly believe that the Church exists to serve the community and world through proclaiming and demonstrating the Gospel of Jesus.
I Graduated from Vanguard College in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts with Youth being my Major. My wife Julia and I have 2 energetic boys Eli and Emmet and a beautiful baby girl Eleah. Along with Pastoring I work for a development company building houses. One day when I grow up I would like to play for the Portuguese National Soccer Team.
Heather Yule, Children's Pastor
I have been the Children's Pastor at NEXT since August 2007.
For over twenty years I pursued a career as a pediatric pharmacist (M. Pharm.) and then God called me to children's ministry. I was accredited as an official worker with the Christian and Missionary Alliance in 2002, but have been working with children in some capacity since I was 14 years old. I have the best job in the world as I get to teach kids about Jesus! I get excited when kids make a connection between the Bible and everyday life. I am privileged to work with an awesome team of volunteers who love kids. I am married to Cameron and we have 2 amazing adult children. My family serves on the worship team at NEXT: Cameron on bass, Maureen on piano and vocals and Duncan on guitar and sound. Outside of church I teach aquacise and love to quilt, read and try new recipes.
